What satisfied Gabbyville customers said?
The bulk of the substantive customer feedback sits on Virtual Assistant Assistant. The positive themes are consistent.
Message quality and detail. A reviewer posting as V. Desai in January 2016 said they had previously received incomplete messages from other services — along the lines of "call so-and-so back" with no context — and that Gabbyville's receptionists took thorough messages instead. The same reviewer noted receiving usage-alert emails as their monthly minute allowance ran down.
Responsiveness. A reviewer identified as Ken Colon, describing a law firm relationship of over a year, left a 5/5 rating in October 2021 citing quick response times, knowledgeable staff and reasonable pricing.
Continuity of team. Dean Maddox, posting in October 2018, described the receptionists as handling calls and tasks the way an in-house employee would, and mentioned being able to reach the receptionist team by email or text.
Fit for small budgets. Several reviewers framed the service as well suited to solo operators and small firms — Chris Crawford (June 2018) cited low fees for a smaller business, and Jennifer (July 2017) said the cost did not strain her budget.

What critical reviewers of Gabbyville raised
Three recurring issues appear in the lower-rated reviews. Note that all three are historical, and at least one was addressed publicly by the company.
1. Overage billing
The lowest-rated review on the page comes from T. Adames (November 2015), who gave 2/5 overall and 1/5 for communication. The reviewer described starting on a plan of 50 minutes for $99, then incurring overage charges of $2.50 per minute. According to the review, no alert was received on approaching the plan threshold, and the monthly bill approached $400 before the reviewer cancelled. The reviewer noted the fees were disclosed rather than hidden, but described the volume of them as the reason for leaving.
It is worth noting that a different reviewer (V. Desai, January 2016) reported receiving usage-alert emails. Both accounts are on the same page. Reader experiences appear to have varied.
2. Phone number formatting in message emails
Adam (January 2016, 3/5 overall, 2/5 communication) described a specific and narrow complaint: callback numbers arrived in notification emails as an unbroken 11-digit string rather than a formatted number, which meant the number could not be tapped to dial on a mobile phone.
Company response: A commenter identified as Emily from Gabbyville replied in November 2016 stating the formatting issue had been updated and numbers were now clickable on any device.
Counter-report: A reviewer posting as "Biz Owner" in July 2017 said the unformatted number strings were still appearing as of spring 2017.
3. Missing features and email deliverability
The same July 2017 reviewer, who rated the service 4/5 overall and 3/5 on communication, raised two further points: Gabbyville had no mobile app at that time, whereas a competitor they had used previously offered one for updating availability on the fly; and receptionist emails were frequently landing in spam folders despite being whitelisted. That reviewer nonetheless described Gabbyville as more affordable than the competitor and concluded it remained a viable option.
The recency problem
For a buyer evaluating a vendor in 2026, the practical issue is this:
- The Clutch review dates from 2017.
- The most recent Virtual Assistant Assistant review dates from 2021.
- G2 flags the profile as inactive for over a year.
- The BBB profile carries no published customer reviews.
Gabbyville vs Wishup
Gabbyville and Wishup are not direct like-for-like competitors. Gabbyville is a live phone answering and virtual receptionist service — its core product is a human answering your business line. Wishup is a dedicated virtual assistant service covering administrative work, bookkeeping, inbox and calendar management, and operational support.
If your single requirement is a receptionist picking up your phone in real time, a receptionist specialist is the right category to shop in. Where Wishup compares favourably is on the dimension this article is actually about: the volume, recency and independent verifiability of customer feedback available to a buyer, plus breadth of task coverage per engagement.
| Criterion | Gabbyville | Wishup |
|---|---|---|
| Core service | Live virtual receptionist / phone answering (Clutch) | Dedicated virtual assistants: exec assistance, bookkeeping, admin, project support (Clutch) |
| Clutch rating | 3.5 / 5 from 1 review | 5.0 / 5 from 55 reviews (source) |
| Clutch sub-scores | Quality 3.0, Schedule 4.0, Cost 4.5, Refer 4.0 | Quality 5.0, Schedule 5.0, Cost 5.0, Refer 5.0 (source) |
| Trustpilot | No profile located | 4.8 / 5 from 104 reviews as displayed mid-2026 (source) |

| Reported outcomes in reviews | Qualitative (professionalism, message detail) | Quantified by clients: support response time cut from ~24 hrs to under 6; 12–15 hrs/week recovered; month-end reconciliation from a week to three days (source) |
| Recurring criticism in reviews | Overage billing surprises; message formatting; no mobile app; email deliverability (VAA) | VA quality inconsistency reported by some clients (Trustpilot); India–US timezone gap (Assistant Scout) |
| Scope per engagement | Call handling, message taking, scheduling, some outbound | Cross-functional: admin, bookkeeping, CRM, research, support tickets (Clutch) |

The honest reading of that table
Where Wishup has the stronger case:
- Volume of independent evidence. 55 Clutch reviews against 1, and 104 Trustpilot reviews against no Trustpilot profile located. More data points make a rating more meaningful.
- Recency. The freshest Gabbyville review we located is roughly five years old. Wishup's Clutch profile carries reviews dated within weeks of this writing.
- Attributability. Wishup's Clutch reviews are largely named and role-identified, which is harder to game than anonymous testimonials.
- Breadth per hire. One Wishup assistant handles calendar, inbox, bookkeeping and CRM. A receptionist plan is scoped to call handling.
Where the comparison does not favour Wishup, and you should weigh this:
- Real-time phone answering is not Wishup's core product. If the job is "someone answers my line on the second ring, every time," you should evaluate receptionist specialists.
- Timezone. Wishup's assistants are largely India-based. Independent reviewer Assistant Scout, which discloses affiliate links, flags the 9.5–13.5 hour gap from US time zones as a genuine constraint for businesses needing live back-and-forth.
- Consistency. At least one Trustpilot reviewer reported that some assistants were strong and others were not, and asked for better screening.
- A caveat on Wishup's Trustpilot score. Trustpilot's own profile notice states the company has not invited its customers to review, which Trustpilot warns may make the sample unrepresentative. This cuts both ways: no solicitation means no incentive bias, but it also means self-selection.
Who each option suits
Consider a virtual receptionist service like Gabbyville if: your bottleneck is inbound calls specifically, you need a live human voice answering your business line during business hours, and you are comfortable requesting current pricing and overage terms directly because published figures are out of date.
Consider a virtual assistant service like Wishup if: your bottleneck is a broad backlog of administrative, bookkeeping and coordination work; you want one person covering several functions; and you place weight on being able to verify a vendor through a large, recent, named body of third-party reviews before committing.
In either case: ask for the overage or overage-equivalent policy in writing before signing. It is the single most common complaint theme in the Gabbyville reviews we read, and it is the kind of term that is easy to skim past.
